The First Time George Washington Read the Declaration of Independence

The Declaration of Independence, drafted by Thomas Jefferson and edited by a Committee of Five,  was first printed by John Dunlap in Philadelphia. The document then sent across America. A copy reached the Commander-in-Chief of the Continental Army, George Washington, who read it to his troops on the 9th July.
