May is Jewish American Heritage Month. This is the month we celebrate the history of Jewish Americans. For generations, Jewish refugees fleeing oppression and discrimination abroad have come to the United States seeking for a better way of life. Early on, they fought for religious freedom. Did you know Union soldiers, fighting in the Civil War, celebrated Passover? Or that Jewish suffragists fought to expand freedom and justice among women of all colors, nationalities, and races? Or that Jewish faith leaders linked arms with the giants of the Civil Rights Movement to demand equal rights for all?
