June is Caribbean-American Heritage Month. There have been many exceptional examples of Caribbean-Americans in U.S. history. To start with, Alexander Hamilton, the First Secretary of the Treasury was from the Caribbean island of Nevis. We are also lucky to count Secretary of State Colin Powell, Cicely Tyson, W.E.B. Dubois, James Weldon Johnson, Harry Belafonte, and Sidney Poitier, all Caribbean-Americans.
